Download Gtalk/UNIX

This should compile out of the box on a Linux system. I apologize that there isn't very much documentation of how to install it. If you have trouble figuring out what to do let me know.

Install

If it compiles correctly, you should get a 'gtalk' executable in the Targets directory. Before you can run this executable, you need to run System/usermk/usermk to create the blank user and class data files. These files should be located in the current directory where you launch the 'gtalk' executable. That executable is a daemon, so it will immediately go into the background and return you to your prompt. Then you should be able to switch to one of the high numbered virtual consoles and get the server login prompt. (or telnet to your machine at port 4000) Then you need to create an account on your UNIX machine with the login name "gtsys". You can use useradd, adduser, or just edit your /etc/passwd file depending on your Linux installation. Set the password for this account. Then go back to the Gtalk login screen. You shoulud be able to login with account #0, and the password should be whatever you set for the UNIX gtsys user.

If you download this and compile it, drop me a note at "jeske@chat.net" so I'll know that there are people who might want a newer version..

Choose one of the following:

gtalk-v1.6.8.tgz -- gtalk-v1.6.8.tar.gz
gtalk-v1.6.7.tgz -- gtalk-v1.6.7.tar.gz
gtalk-v1.6.6.tgz -- gtalk-v1.6.6.tar.gz
new1.6.4.tgz -- new1.6.4.tar.gz
